After earning a BFA in photography in 1985, Eric van den Brulle began his career as the senior designer for a small mid-west design firm, Dawson Design Group, where he was awarded the Mead Annual Report Award.

He radically changed directions in 1988, moving to New York City to become a photo-assistant for celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz. He was involved in a wide range of projects, from the American Ballet Theater's 50-year anniversary book to the fabled American Express portrait campaign. After leaving Annie Leibovitz's studio, Eric worked as both a freelance photographer and graphic designer for Estee Lauder, NBC, Liz Claiborne, Forbes, Paper and other magazines.

In 1992, Eric was offered the creative directorship of the New York-based design firm, The Burnett Group. There he worked on print collateral, advertising, interactive and web design for Alltel, Merrill Lynch, Smith Barney, The American Folk Art Museum, Societe Generale, and Pepsi, among other clients. During this time, Eric also traveled as a photographer on a pilgrimage to Tibet with singer/songwriter James Taylor. His stunning portraits of Buddhist monks taken on that trip have appeared in dozens of high-profile magazines and advertising campaigns.

Eric returned to freelancing as an art director and photographer in 1998. His current client list includes FAO Schwarz, Forbes, Merck Medco, JPMorgan Chase, Mexx, Michael Kors, MoMA, Spoleto Festival, and Lincoln Center. Eric's graphic design work has been honored in many industry periodicals, as has his photography, which has been selected numerous times for inclusion in the prestigious Communication Arts and American Photography annual awards publications.

Since 1999, Eric also has been shooting film. His cinematography has been called "breathtaking," "exquisite," and "beautiful" in reviews by Variety and, most notably, by Village Voice film critic Amy Taubin. Recently, Eric completed work as cinematographer, co-writer, and associate producer on the independent feature film "Big River." The film was an official selection of the 2006 Pusan and Berlin International Film Festivals and was distributed in Europe by Celluloid Dreams and in Tokyo by Office Kitano (The film also screened at The Brooklyn Academy of Music in October 2006). Eric's other film credits include the 2002 indie release "Echoes," the 2003 "God in the Machine," and the 2005 documentary, "Threads." As camera operator, Eric also worked with acclaimed director Michael Moore on "The Slacker Uprising."
